Thanksgiving Break
Okay, this is a week late, but my Thanksgiving break was so awesome I HAVE to post it. =)
Wednesday: So on Wednesday we had a Staff Collab day because it was the day before break. I REALLY wanted the whole week off, but our district only had Thursday and Friday off. It was unfair that my brothers got the whole week off. God, it sucked when i had to wake up early on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and see that they are still asleep. =___________= My mom picked me up at 1 pm and we went to eat lunch at 2. Then we went to Safeway to buy the items I needed to make the pies I found recipes for. See, I wanted to try making pies over the break and bring some to my great aunty’s house for our Thanksgiving feast. My mom and I had a small argument inside Safeway because I didn’t prepare anything before going (as in seeing all the items I needed, reading the recipe first, etc.) I know, I should’ve done all that first. I just didn’t find the time. And it sucked that because stores were going to be closed on Thanksgiving, EVERYONE went to store up for their feast at Safeway. I swear, we couldn’t find a parking place ANYWHERE. And when my mom nagged me inside the store, I got so annoyed that I didn’t even bother apologizing to people after running into them with a shopping cart. >____< Sorry guys! So yeah, I made a banana cream pie that night. It was hecka fun. I spent a total of one hour making the crust though. I had to completely crush the nilla wafers for the crust; took me forever kneading and crushing those hard crackers. xD After the crust, I melted Baker’s chocolate and spread them on the crust, and then I added cut up bananas on top of that. I had trouble measuring the ratio of the amount of milk to pudding powder, so I think I ended up adding to much powder to too little milk, causing the pudding to be chunky. However, two days amount of refrigerating solved that problem (we didn’t have to bake the pie, but refrigerate it). xD The result of the pie was pretty good. We ate it Saturday night. My brother LOVED it becaus there was a thick chunk of chocolate on the bottom plus a alot of pudding on the top.
Thursday: I woke up earlier in the morning to make a lattice-topped apple pie. I swear, the process from the beginning of pie making to after we took it out of the oven spanned into a total of 5-6 hours. Yeah….. I’m not going to go through the whole process because that’ll take forever. I had fun kneading the crust though (and after knowing all the fat stuff I added into it, I’ve learned that apple pies are something I need to be scared of….) My mom helped me cook the syrupy apples. Oh yeah, when I was slicing the apples, I forgot to peel it first, so I ended up peeling the skin for 4 apples in slices…. Talke about creating more work for myself. I think the crust turned out pretty good and the apples were delicious. When we sent it into the oven to bake, the smell was MM-MM GOOD. Yup. I’m proud. When we got to m great-aunt and uncle’s house, my dad and I instantly went running at the their Mt. Diablo there. It was COLD. I ran uphills, but I didn’t even sweat. When we were coming back, we went through a whole mountain of cows. We even saw a coyote! When we got back to the house, I was FREEZING. As in like, I cant feel my toes or my fingers, and my nose was running. Lol. Took a hot shower and ate dinner. It was Thanksgiving, but we didn’t eat turkey at all. We had beef, chicken, ham, potato salad, mushrooms, pears, raw veggies (salad), and a chicken vegetable soup with potatoes, tomatoes, celery, and carrots. God. It was GOOD……People who went to my great-aunty and uncle’s house praised my pie (they had an apple pie from Costco too, but they decided to eat mine first cause it was prettier and I made it xD) Lol. We ate it ith a scoop of french vanilla ice cream. It was GOOD. Another lady made mango pudding and fruit pies, and my great-aunty made brownies.
Friday: Didn’t really do much today. Woke up at around 9 and ate breakfast. Played monopoly with my brothers. Went to Costco at around 1-ish. Then we went to rent movies to watch (YAY!) Got 4 movies: the Bourne Supremacy, the Bourne Identity, Music and Lyrics, and something to do with Barnyards (my baby brother wanted it). Then we went to Valley Fair to join in Black Friday. There were TONS of people. My mom went into the LV store almost immediately. She had wanted a new style of bag from them, so she wrote the name of the style down on a bag and gave it to the lady. The lady took the bag out and my mom looked at it once in the mirror, then she bought it. O_O WOW. Haha, it was funny, really. The lady was, “Is this a gift?” and my mom said, “Yes. For myself.” xDDD Then I went to the Ony store and looked at the cell phones. I’ve got my eyes on the Sony Ericsson w580i (but I also want the w900i or w910i, which are only available in Europe and Asia…. ;;_;;) My brother wanted to play Runescape on the laptops there, so the rest of us left him to shop somewhere else. I wanted to go to a candy store to get a bag of assorted candies, but we found out there wasn’t one in Valley Fair. =________= Went to ask someone in the T-mobile stands about contracts, and he ended up talking for half an hour…. (he pulled out like, half the cell phones in the stand). When we finally left, we walked around and I shopped for a little while in Abercrombie. I saw a male model standing outside the entrance to Abercrombie and Finch. He had a SIX PACKS. *drool* !_! That night, we watched the Bourne Supremacy. Awesome movie. My dad really likes this series; he’s going to buy the whole box set when/if it comes out. I <3 it too.
Saturday: Went running with my dad and brother in the morning. Ate Korean food for lunch (had a nice sizzling chicken pot and then vanilla ice cream). The vanilla ice cream there are GOOD. I don’t know what kind of milk they use, but it’s awesome. Then we went home and I watched Music and Lyrics. Hilarious movie. The song they made up was pretty good, though. Though it’s a pretty carefree and light movie, it made me cry at the end. Very touching. If you’re looking for a nice, pleasant movie to watch, watch Music and Lyrics. Then my dad took my brother and I out to Q-cup. Got popcorn chicken and fried calamari (saw yam fries and wanted to get some, but didn’t; gonna get it nex time cause my mom said she loves it too when I told her) My brother got pearl milk tea w/ pearls, I got peach milk tea w/ pearls, and I got a jasmine milk tea w/ apple grass jelly for my baby brother. Great dinner. Tried out my banana cream pie and played with the cream can. Haha. My brother loved the pie. He ate two slices! I’m proud. Watched the Bourne Identity that night. Again, great movie, though I got nauseous (is that how you spell it?) at the end because there were so much bloody scenes. I swear I get SO grossed out when I see blood; I get a headache and I start seeing spot, then I get dizzy and feel like vomiting. Yeah. That’s why I’m not becoming a doctor.
Sunday: Went out to eat brunch at Darda Seafood restaurant. Then we went to the bakery next door to buy bread (I LOVE bread; made my parents go earlier because all the good bread is gone when we go later, like in the afternoon….) Then we went to climb Mission Peak. Hiked for 5 hours; when we got back to the car, the sun was already pretty close to completely setting. It got so cold at the top of the peak. When we were coming down, my hands were numb and my nose was running like crazy (even though I had a scarf too). We ate hot pot that night. YES! Something hot to warm the coldness of the mountains. Went home at around 7-ish and started doing my PE homework, but I didn’t finish until 12-ish. =_________= It’s pretty pathetic, seeing how my PE teacher said that the homework should only take about half to one hour. I’m pretty pissed that I stayed up so late. I get pissed now when I stay up after 11. It’s like a pet peeve. After reading that the average human should sleep 8-9 hours, I’m trying to get my hours close to that. Anything lower and I get frustrated.
So yeah, my Thanksgiving break. My favorite parts were the pie making and the movie watching. I love spending time with my family, and having all of us snuggled on the couch watching an awesme movie with the lights off was just AWESOME!
